P, C & C have a party in their heads (V): Junk Musik release party

What are Christoffer Lundquist doing? Easy. While some Swedish artists sign an open letter to stop the downloading of their work, others find Internet a fast, easy and simple way to release music. This is the case of Junk Music, a publishing company founded in the spring of 2004 by Christoffer Lundquist, Jens Jansson, David Birde, Magnus Börjeson and Anders Mildner.

Lundquist, Jansson and Birde are members of the Swedish band Brainpool. Börjeson and Mildner worked together in Beagle.

Junk Musik became the first Swedish company to abandon the CD and release their first single online. The single in question is “Lady Gwendoline” by Metro Jets (David Birde and Magnus Börjeson). The song was recorded on Monday 18, mixed by Christoffer early yesterday morning and put on sale online a few hours later at the price of 10 SEK (approx. €1). Singles by Brainpool, Florian Horwath and Justin Winokur are also available via Junk Musik’s website.

By the way, Florian Horwath has premiered today his video When the light came around. The song was recorded at Aerosol Grey Machine Studio and produced by Christoffer Lundquist.

Florian Horwath is an Austrian songwriter and singer that lives in Berlin. Last winter, he contacted with Christoffer Lundquist in order to record his first album in the Aerosol Grey Machine Studio. Florian connected very fast with Chris and the other musicians (David Birde and Jens Jansson, from Brainpool). His style, that many compare to Cat Stevens, helped.

Florian has released his new album, We are all gold, in Germany and now Junk Musik will publishes a digital single, When the light came around (30.04.2005). He could tour with David Birde and Jens Jansson in Austria and Germany this spring.

Welcome to Junk!

Yesterday, Metro Jets arrived at Christoffer Lundquist’s studio at 10 AM. They chose which song to record and got to work. At 12 PM the recording session was finished and the band returned home.
Christoffer started mixing at 7 AM today, and a couple of hours later Magnus Börjeson drove to the studio and got the file.

Now, we’re insanely happy to be able to present it to you. Metro Jets’ new single is magnificent. It’s called “Lady Gwendoline”. Metro Jets describes it as “Big pop in a big room”. We say it’s a big step for a small publishing house. Today, we have become the first Swedish company to abandon the cd.

P, C & C have a party in their heads (IV): PG's View from the bridge vs. FW's Måla mitt minne

LJdM readers could remember one of the first works of the team "P, C & C": a song for the Oresund bridge.

Swedish musician Freddie Wadling (The Flesh Quartet, among others) will release a new album March 30. The album is called “Jag är monstret” (“I Am the Monster”), and contains songs written by other artists, like for instance Jocke Berg (Kent), Mauro Scocco and Per Gessle.

Per’s little contribution is “Måla mitt minne” (“Paint My Memory”), a mid-tempo song written for the “Mazarin” album in November 2002, but was never fully recorded. Some of the melody is borrowed from Per’s own instrumental “View From a Bridge”, written for the opening of the Öresund bridge a few years ago. Titiyo sings with Freddie on this song.

Helena Josefsson, backing singer at Tambourine Studios and Gula Studion (XIV): The Margarets - Love will haunt you down

After their first album, What kept you (2002), The Margarets release today the second one: Love will haunt you down.

The album, produced by the guitarist Rune Berg, was firstly recorded at Tambourine Studios, Malmö, in November 2003 with engineer Herman Söderström (Tambourine Studios). Helena Josefsson takes part as background singer in two songs: A farewell to arms and Motorcycle song.

The recordings continued at three different studios: Athletic Sound (Halden, Norway - December 2003 - January 2004, with Kai Ø. Andersen), Lydlab (Oslo, Norway, March 2004, with Ulf Holand) and Quad Recording Studios (New York, USA, September 2004, with Michael H. Brauer). The band went from a a tiny island (Giske, in the west coast of Norway) to the shore of the greatest island (Manhattan).

The Margarets is a Norwegian pop-group inspired by the Beatles, The Cure, Nick Drake, The Sundays, The Holllies, Led Zeppelin, Los Lobos, Astroburger and The Smiths.

The Margarets is a story about two brothers and four cousins staying together, believing in themselves and their music through hard times, and who - after ten years - took a huge gamble, borrowing $80,000 to cut their first CD. No sooner had Rubber Rubbish (single of their first album) become a hit in 2002, that all the major international record companies were falling over themselves to sign them. Thanks to a prestigious deal with Universal Records, that ominous bank loan has now been consigned to history.

In the wake of The Margaret's arrival in 2002, Norway's newspapers were immersing themselves in the 10-year history of the 'new' band, while radio & television stations flooded the airwaves with the 'new' music. The musicians, needless to say, happily soaked up the attention after a decade in the wilderness. "We have spent a period floundering at sea" said lead singer, Alex Rinde.

P, C & C have a party in their heads (III): Mazarinerna rest into shape in a secret gig

Gyllene Tider, nominated for four Grammis awards, received two awards two weeks ago at The Grand Hotel in Stockholm. Gyllene Tider was selected as “Pop group of the Year” and their DVD “GT 25 live! En scen vid en plats i en stad” was “Music DVD of the Year.”

Surprisingly, last night The Ark and Per Gessle and his band Mazarinerna played at fashion house Vero Moda’s secret company gig in Nacka Strand, Stockholm. About 1,200 people attended the “swell gig.”

The band Mazarinerna consisted of Christoffer Lundquist, Clarence Öfwerman, Helena Josefsson, Jens Jansson, MP Persson and Anders Herrlin, according to TDR’s sources. The setlist was “Mazarin” and Gyllene Tider material mixed. The band’s sound was super, according to Gessle. “Fun to play, my throat is hoarse today!” Per tells TDR.

This gig could me the beginning of a new work of the band. It's known that P, C & C have been recording new songs since December 2004.

Sandy Mouche's White Lucky Dragon (V): Tsunami and Cherry Pie

According to Sydsvenskan.se, Helena Josefsson and Martinique Nilsson from Sandy Mouche took part in the Red Cross' Gala for Asian Tsunami disaster in Malmö's Opera and Music Theatre last Sunday 9th January 2005. The gala was planned by Ove Dahlström and musicians Mikael Wiehe and Eddie Nyström.

1470 tickets (400 kronor each one), were sold and they got 638740 kronor in total. Artists, including Nina Persson with Niclas Frisk, Danne Stråhed Band, Jaques Werup, Eva Rydberg, Gonza Blatteskånska (Advance Patrol), Dajana Lööf and Jan Malmsjö, play for free.

Meanwhile, the video of their song "Cherry Pie" has been released and they have played in Malmö.
