Martinique: A storyteller

Hi! I am Martinique from Sandy Mouche. I have recorded 4 songs.
  • 1. I hear strange things ...
  • 2. The meaning of haste
  • 3. The girl from Milan
  • 4. I'm Spiderman

Listen to them util you drop!
I will start sending them out to different record companies this week. Take care!

Martinique Josefsson's songs (that we can hear on his myspace) are so graceful and harmonious! He reminds me of Lobo (do you know that American singer from the 70's that our parents used to play for us when we were little ? Songs like "You and Me and a Dog Named Boo", "I'd love you to love me", "Don't Tell Me Goodnight" - pure, luxurious harmonies and a tender voice). I just love the feeling Martin creates with that early synthpop touches, it sends me right back to early 80's when I was just a baby, but my father always played these kinds of harmonies for me. I will hear them forever in my heart!

"I'm Spiderman" also reminds me of some Bee Gees' "Saturday Night Fever" songs, but Martin's melody is more troubling and penetrating, it doesn't stay at the surface, it goes deep in your mind. It is a very balanced song, well built and emotional at the same time.

"Girl from Milan" is so tender and Helenas backing vocals makes it sound like an intense feeling that turned into a song. It sounds like...Sandy Mouche (which is a compliment!). I love Martins vocals because he has a very warm, smooth, evocative voice. You could listen to him forever without having the impression that the voice would exhaust you. That's so rare!

In my opinion, Martin has the voice and the "patience" of a storyteller. He should tell us more musical stories!

If you didn't listen to his two songs by now, go to his myspace right away! It is like an oasis of steady harmony in our course musical world!

Martin Nilsson (a.k.a. Martinique Josefsson) was born on 21st February 1979. His mother was born in Poland and some of her relatives emigrate to Sweden or France. Martin grew up in the small locality of Löddeköpinge, close to Malmö, Skäne, Sweden. He met Helena Josefsson at the Italian classes in Katedralskolan of Lund. They married Martin Nilsson in 2003 and they live together in an apartment close to Malmö's Folkets Park.

Martin "the Professor" Bjurström, a close friend and poker partner of Martinique Josefsson (Sandy Mouche), has created his Myspace. There we can listen to some songs of this great jazz pianist from Malmö.

My mother tongue is French and i'm from Canada... when i discovered Sandy Mouche's music back in 2003 i think... i totally fell in love with their mixture of French and English in their music cause our province here in Canada is officially bi-lingual (French and English) and a lot of people here mix French and English quite regularly. I heart Sandy Mouche.
I told them that their music would be very well received in Canada cause we are a bi-lingual country ... i've been a fan of theirs for quite some years and have been playing them on my radio show here in the east coast as well as a few times on national radio where I do freelance work! I'd be one of the first ones to buy their album if it was released in Canada... that's for sure.

I am the host of (((la photo sonore))) radio show, that is every thursday nights from 7 to 9pm (Atlantic Standard time) - CKUM Radio J 93.5fm - and available online. On 23rd November 2006, I have played 28 songs. Number 13 was "Cloette", by Sandy Mouche.
Marc Xavier Leblanc, DJ Bones

Martinique´s mother is Polish and she moved to Sweden as a young woman. His aunt moved to France, so Martinique´s summers were spent there, playing with his French cousin and his sister. And I read French in school .

It is a very beautiful language and we know some of it so the language gives us a lot of inspiration when we sing it!

Hi... i am Marc Xavier LeBlanc... aka Bones... I'm a radio show host and DJ from Canada and i'm a big fan of Helena and Sandy Mouche.

On 4th November 2006 there was a "Nudie Cafe Party" at Cafe Pause in Tokyo (2-14-12-1F Minami-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo). Contributors were Hideki Kaji, Embee, Hird, Hej Musik, and Marc Xavier LeBlanc (Bones), and all music was 100% Swedish.

Jean Snow, a Tokyo-based writer, is the gallery manager of Cafe Pause (access), and produces events and parties there as well. The cafe is also home to the PauseTalk series of monthly talk events, aiming to create a forum where Tokyo-based creatives can get together and discuss their own projects, as well as cultural currents of the city. The cafe has its own site, and its own blog as well (in Japanese).

I didn't actually dj at the event in Tokyo ... but i did make 5 mixes for the event and they ended up using 3 of the 5 mixes during the exhibit and which played during the entire exhibit. 1 of the mixes had a track
(The moon is a grain of sand) by Helena Josefsson from the forthcoming album and i also put a Sandy Mouche song (Une histoire) on one of the other mixes that wasn't used.

I've been a fan of Sandy Mouche for quite a few years (from 2003 almost) and also did a little interview with them on the www.itsatrap.com website which talks about scandinavian music in general. Here is the link to the "20 questions I had with Sandy Mouche" back in 2004. I hope you enjoy.

Sandy Mouche's poems grow up abroad (II): Papillon, first single in France - Spiderweb suit, waiting in New York

Papillon,
first single in France (2006 · 08 · 18 )

We are still here! We are preparing for the French release so that is why we seem so absent.

We have been doing all kinds of things for example swimming in the sea :o) And we have been trying to manage to make a new music video, just trying to collect every coin that is needed.

I hope we can make it! I am also reading children´s books in French because I need to get better in French so I can speak when we release the album i France soon... But even the children´s books are a bit difficult so I will take a course too, hopefully that will help :o)

Have a lovely day
Hug from Helena!

Helena Josefsson (Sandy Mouche)

Our French record company Martingale will start by releasing "Papillon" as the first promo-single in France along with video. Great!

Spiderweb suit,
soundtrack in
New York Waiting

“The Sandy Mouche song "Spiderweb Suit" is featured in the film "New York Waiting" by Joachim Hedén. The film had its world premier and competed at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The festival ran from april 27 to may 7.” The opening night for cinemas in Sweden is august 25th. There are some plans for a Spiderweb video but nothing is decided yet.”

We can read a review from the film by Mark Deming, in All Movie Guide (United States):
Two people trying to sort out their love lives begin killing time together in this romantic drama. Sidney (Chris Stewart) hasn't been able to pull himself together since his girlfriend Coreen (Katrina Nelson) gave him his walking papers, and he's decided to make a last grand romantic gesture to lure her back. Sidney sends Coreen an airline ticket to New York City and asks her to meet him at the observation deck of the Empire State Building at a specific day and time. Sidney arrives in New York a few days early, and spends his time sightseeing to keep himself occupied. While dining at a coffee shop, Sidney meets Amy (Annie Woods), who like Sidney is having romantic problems. Amy has walked out on her uncaring boyfriend Michael (Don Wildman) and has chosen to go back to her hometown of San Francisco. Sidney and Amy discover they have more than a little in common, and since they have two days with little to do, they begin exploring the city together, and as they grow closer, both begin to wonder if a change of plans might be in order. New York Waiting received its world premier at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival.
